IT'S A big week for Ashton Burkinshaw when it hits our TV screens this week.
The letting specialist features in BBC1’s Homes Under the Hammer on Monday in an episode that follows the progress of a house in Sutton-at-Hone, near Swanley.
Kevin and Ann Day completed on the two-bedroom terrace house in March after snapping it up at auction, and in a short time they turned what was once a damp-ridden shell of a building into an attractive home.
Presented by Martin Roberts and Lucy Alexander, the programme followed Kevin and Ann’s mammoth task of renovating the house, which they had intended to sell on to make a profit.
However, the pair were disappointed to hear that according to estate agents the property had not increased in value to the level they had hoped and so decided instead to let the house.
Kevin and Ann turned to the help of Ashton Burkinshaw, who secured them a tenant in just over two weeks.
"It’s a great little house and a short walk from the main line station", said Sam Tabor of Ashton Burkinshaw’s Swanley branch. "When we heard from Mr and Mrs Day we were happy to help, despite the fact that the house was far from finished.
"The newly-fitted kitchen and bathroom, with the new windows, electrics and heating system, were a big appeal. So often properties that have been let for some time become tired and dated.
"Tenants like newly-refurbished properties as they know they are less likely to experience any faults and that the property is likely to be in good condition."
He added: "Where the anticipated sale price had failed to excite Mr and Mrs Day they were very happy with the rental we achieved.
"They will also benefit from the increase in capital value when the market starts to move upwards again."
