Gillingham manager Justin Edinburgh keen to tie up deals with Stuart Nelson and Josh Wright

Gills boss Justin Edinburgh insists time is running out for those players who have been offered new deals.

Goalkeeper Stuart Nelson and midfielder Josh Wright have yet to decide on whether to pen new deals or move on.

Chairman Paul Scally is working on deals for both players, having had communication with their agents but Edinburgh knows he can’t afford to wait for long.

He is keen for both to sign, along with Aaron Morris, who is understood to be close to agreeing terms, but will have to be ruthless as he looks to shape his squad for the new season.

Edinburgh said: “I would be disappointed to lose them but we aren’t going to be held to ransom. Hopefully, they are edging closer.

“There will be a cut-off point. The two boys (Nelson and Wright) are senior players, I have trust in them. I understand they want what is best for them and we are trying to get the best value for the club.

“I am hopeful that we will get an answer by the end of the week for both, but I am not going to stretch it forever. We want to make a decision. It’s soon going to be a case of that day or no day.

“We have to make sure we are not vulnerable ourselves and miss other targets.”
