Drug woman jailed

A woman who was caught with a large amount of heroin and crack cocaine and thousands of pounds in cash has been jailed for six-and-a-half years.
Police found Amy Yelding's car parked on the verge of a slip road on the Wainscott bypass at the turning for Higham.

Maidstone Crown Court heard when the 45-year-old got out of the Mitsubishi car, she was unsteady on her feet.
Officers breath-tested her but found she had not been drinking. They then suspected her of taking drugs.
Tanya Robinson, prosecuting, said the car was taken to Medway police station and, when searched, a bag containing packs of cocaine and heroin was found.
A large carving knife was under the front passenger car mat.
Yelding was searched and a wrap of heroin and £400 cash was seized. The total value of the drugs was nearly £7,000.
Miss Robinson said officers went to her caravan at a site in Allhallows. They forced entry and found more drugs and over £24,000 in cash.
Yelding, of Plumstead, south east London, denied three charges of possessing drugs with intent to supply and one of possessing a blade article, but was convicted.
She claimed the drugs in the car were hers and said she would be killed if she gave any names. She denied being a drug dealer and said the cash was her father’s.
“She said travelling people did not use banks, but it was pointed out to her police had located bank statements in her name,” said the prosecutor.
Judge Jeremy Carey said Yelding had a bad criminal record over a good many years.
“It is plain to me you have had, and may still have, a drug addiction,” he said. “You certainly have a persistent habit. This was a substantial quantity of drugs.
“You will know this court’s obligation is to reflect in sentence society’s abhorrence of this kind of drug possession.”
She claimed she was acting under duress but the jury rejected it as crass “and, indeed, it was crass”, he said.
“It is a murky world but I judge you were acting as a courier. You have a relatively low IQ but you have a very adroit way of dealing with every day business and living.”
