The fire broke out at the entrance to a first floor flat in Bicknor Road at about 3.15am.
A man was rescued from a blaze in a block of flats in Maidstone this morning.
Neighbours dialled 999 when they heard the property’s smoke alarm sounding.
Firefighters rescued the man, said to be in his 40s, before using breathing apparatus to tackle the blaze.
Two crews from Maidstone took about an hour to bring the fire under control.
The man escaped unhurt, but was taken to Maidstone Hospital suffering from smoke inhalation.
There was minimal damage to the entrance hall of the property, which is in a three-storey block of flats.
Police also attended and are currently investigating the cause of the fire.
