POLICE are concerned for the welfare of a 63-year-old woman missing from the mental health unit of the Queen Mother hospital at Margate.

Barbara Evans, also known by her middle name Jean, was last seen walking along the town’s seafront at 11.40am on Friday, April 2. She was reported missing after failing to return to her ward later that day.

She is about 5ft 6ins tall and slim. She has a pale complexion and blue eyes. Her hair is white, shoulder length and slightly wavy. She was last seen wearing a three-quarter length navy blue or black coat, black shoes and a blue skirt. She is believed to be suffering from a mental illness.

Thanet police spokeswoman Gemma Pettman said: “Staff have told us that Barbara enjoys the fresh air and has been known to enjoy long walks in the past.

“However, she doesn’t have any of her belongings with her and because of her age and mental health issues we are concerned for her wellbeing.”

Sightings of Barbara Evans should be reported to Thanet police on 01843 231055.
