Gravesend musicians strike chord in Malta

You may not have heard of them in their Kent home town, but a Gravesend duo are storming the Maltese music charts.

Music producer Scott Walker, 37, from Gravesend has seen his star rise since forming a partnership with Maltese writer Carlo Gerada last year to produce dance records.

The duo's hit single Can't Stop, performed by fellow Gravesend singer AzaZel, has been a sensation on the Mediterranean island, topping the chart for four consecutive weeks and earning a nomination for Track of the Year at a music awards show.

The single, available to listen on YouTube, has recorded more than 10,000 hits in just two months and is now available as a download on iTunes.

It has been a turn in fortune for Mr Walker who was growing frustrated at the lack of opportunities.

He said: "I was getting fed up with the music industry going down the normal channels. It was becoming impossible and it felt like a closed market.

"I have some property out in Malta and visit regularly. When I met Carlo we just found we were like minded individuals and worked well together.

"The song is available on iTunes and its all coming up from sunny Gravesend."

Mr Walker is now hoping to capitalise on his success by raising his profile in other countries after starting his record company Code Red Records in January.

He said: "The single has been a bit phenomenal but now we are looking to transfer that to the rest of Europe."

As well as signing a local musician to his label, Mr Walker has also employed a Gravesend promotions manager to help him spread his musical wings.

He founded Code Red Records in January and has three artists signed up.
