Firefighters tackle huge barn fire

Firefighters have been tackling a huge barn blaze in Aldington today.

The blaze, which ate through 230 tonnes of straw, broke out at Church Lane, Aldington, at 5am.

FIre engines and a bulk water carrier were sent to the scene and firefighters battled to keep the flames under control and stop them spreading.

Aldington community correspondent Luke Brown said: “When the fire was at it worst the flames reached the height of the building.

“But the area has been sealed off and the flames were brought under control.”

The 30 by 40 metre barn was destroyed.

Firefighters do not believe the blaze was started deliberately but say the cause of the blaze is otherwise unknown.
